Malaysia, in its capacity as chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), has proposed a meeting to discuss developments in Iraq to be held soon with the other members of the NAM Troika, South Africa and Cuba.
Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said that the meeting would discuss the role of the United Nations in Iraq and the current world scenario, especially since the United States has turned its focus on Syria alleging that the country was harboring senior Iraqi leaders, the national news agency Bernama reported Tuesday.
However, he declined to further elaborate on the meeting of the NAM Troika -- South Africa, NAM's former chairman, Malaysia, the present chairman, and Cuba, the future chairman.
"The United States should stop threatening Syria and raise whatever problems with that country at the negotiating table, or it would appear as if we're faced with the law of the jungle," he said.
Syed Hamid said that now is the time to look at the future of Iraq rather than creating another war spot since the war in Iraq had created so much devastation and destruction.
He made the remarks after receiving donations from private firms and ministries for the Iraqi people's humanitarian fund launched in the country.
