A soldier from the US 101st Airborne Division was charged with murder in a grenade attack on officers' tents in Kuwait last month, officials at Fort Campbell in Kentucky announced on Friday.
Sergeant Hasan K. Akbar, 32, was charged with two counts of premeditated murder and 17 counts of attempted murder under US military law.
He was also charged with one count each of aggravated arson of an inhabited dwelling and misbehavior as a sentinel while receiving special pay.
On March 23, Akbar threw grenades into officers' tents of a US camp in Kuwait, killing two officers and injuring 14 soldiers. He was flown back to the United States last Friday and was being held at an unknown military facility.
