Kenyan Muslims Stage Anti-war Demonstration in Capital
Hundreds of Kenyan Muslims on Friday took to the streets in Nairobi protesting against the US-led military attack on Iraq.

They called for the withdrawal of the coalition forces from the Gulf to give peace a chance, saying that the military attack will only cause more sufferings to children and women alongside the old.

They faithfully took to the streets after their Friday prayers at around 1 p.m. (1000 GMT) from Nairobi's Jamia Mosque situated at the city center.

The demonstrators expressed fears that US President George Bush want to fight Islam and claimed that Bush is doing so under the pretext of disarming Saddam Hussein.

The demonstration which took place peacefully saw the faithful carry placards with anti-Bush and anti-Blair slogans.

"The bombing of Baghdad is a crime against humanity," Ismail Hussein, said one of the demonstrators.

"The ongoing war in Iraq is not that of getting Saddam but Bush is just out to kill the innocent people. Iraq does not have weapons of mass destruction," Ismail added.

Some accused the United Nations of not taking stern measures on the US president and British prime minister, saying that the UN has lost its meaning and credibility because it keeps a watch as "America destroy humanity."

Friday's demonstration was the second major protests in Kenya since the Iraqi war started a week ago.

Last week, a massive demonstration against the US-led war against Iraq rocked the Kenyan coastal port of Mombasa.

Over 5,000 Muslims protesters were joined by non-Muslims and even three Americans after Friday prayers in the anti-war protests.
