Vice chairman of CPPCC National Committee, chairman of Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee of Protestant Churches of China, and president of the Christian Council of China in 1989-1997.

Vice chairman of 3rd CPPCC National Committee; Standing Committee member of 5th CPPCC National Committee, vice chairman of7th, 8th and 9th CPPCC National Committee.
