In 2003, the telephone switching board capacity has reached 8.92 million entries, 21 percent up from 2002. The number of urban telephone users hit 4.58 million, 32.8 percent up, and rural telephone users reached 2.18 million, 19.4 percent up. The mobile phone users amounted to 6.27 million, 30.2 percent up. The province averaged 17 telephones per 100 persons.

Radios and TV stations

In 2003 Shaanxi had 98 TV stations with 122 channels broadcasting 7,107 hours per week, 11 radio stations at prefectual level, and 12 radio relay stations. The radio and TV coverage in the province was 91.95 percent and 93.18 percent respectively, 0.49 and 0.31 percentage points higher than the previous year.
