Delegates to the 16th Party Congress called for adherence to the "Three Representatives" theory as a long-term guiding ideology for the Communist Party of China (CPC), noting that it is a "continuation, development and enrichment" of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory.
The delegates highly commended the report delivered by General Secretary Jiang Zemin on Friday which embodied the "Three Representatives," demanding the CPC always represent the development trends of China's advanced productive forces, the orientation of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people.
"This important thought is a creation by the CPC third-generation collective leadership, which has applied the basic principles of Marxism to resolve new problems in China's reform, opening-up and modernization drive," said Sun Dali, a delegate to the congress, according to People's Daily.
Delegate Wang Weiguang said for a large country with a population of 1.3 billion, a scientific guiding theory is crucial to development.
Zhang Dejiang, a delegate from Zhejing Province, added that the "Three Representatives" theory is "a powerful ideological weapon for enhancing and improving the Party's leadership, and accelerating the self-improvement and development of the socialist system."
Delegate Li Zemin believes that the "Three Representatives" is a scientific theory which covers various fields such as politics, economics and culture.
