Starting from the end of 1946, patriotic democracy movements participated in by the masses at various levels took place in the Kuomintang-controlled areas. Spearheaded by the student movement, these movements served as a second front of the liberation war. On December 30, 1946, students in Peiping (Beijing) took to the streets to protest against the atrocities of American soldiers.
