A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) called for pushing historical research on the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggress and the World Anti-Fascist War to a new level Sunday.
"The Chinese people have accumulated valuable historical experience in the anti-Japanese war. In-depth research on this historical period is beneficial to drawing lessons from history and creating a bright future, said Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at a national seminar held in Beijing to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory of the anti-Japanese war and anti-Fascist war.
The research should place the emphasis on the function and status of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the war, on the history in which the Chinese nation was invaded and enslaved, on the spirit of resistance against war and on the united front work, Li said.
The research should pay particular attention to the history of mutual support by world anti-Fascist forces so as to promote international cooperation and exchanges, Li added.
The research on the history of Japanese aggression on China and other countries in Asia and the Pacific region can expose the atrocities of Japanese Militarism, lay bare the lies of Japanese right-wing forces in distorting history and beautifying aggression and revealing the historical origin between Taiwan independence and Japanese militarism, he said.
The three-day seminar was sponsored by four organs of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
