More than 200 overseas and 100 Chinese WWII veterans will gather in Beijing on Sept. 2 to sign a "Beijing Peace Declaration" and inaugurate the "Beijing Peace Wall".
Zhou Jianguo, deputy secretary of the organizing committee, said at a press conference here Friday.
These activities, joined by US, Russian, British, French and Chinese veterans, are aimed at marking the 60th anniversary of the WWII victory and China's victory in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression.
"As we know, other monuments are all commemorating the victims of the war or some certain battles. However, this wall highlights a theme that the survivors and participants of the WWII prey for peace," Zhou said.
"It is also one of the biggest non-governmental commemorating activities in China to mark the victory," he said.
The declaration will be engraved on the 60-meter-long and 10-meter-high "Beijing Peace Wall" in Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish languages. The veterans' hand-prints will also be engraved on the wall.
