Thirty seven environmental envoys of SEPA made a proposal on the occasion of the World Environmental Day that all citizens keep wild animals off the dinner table, do not purchase wild animal products, give up all customs and habits that are detrimental to the environment and keep an environmentally friendly life style.
The proposal said that though the SARS seems a natural disaster, it is indeed related to human role. Scientists believe that the variation of virus is closely related to the changes in the natural environment and the virus is transmitted as a result of close contact between wild animals and the humans. This disaster tells us that the mankind must respect nature, cherish life, reassess its life style and raise environmental awareness. The humans must practice an ecologically friendly civilization and behaviors and modes of consumption that are scientifically based, environmentally friendly and healthy.
They proposed that people refuse to eat wild animals and do not purchase wild animal products. Whenever they find some people kill, trade and cook wild animals, they must report to the authorities. No specimens of wild animals should be made and traded. Ecology, especially the habitats of wild animals, must not be damaged and the environment for the survival of organisms and their food chains must be protected.
The proposal said that the bad habits such as spitting, littering and smoking at public places must be forsaken. No emissions of wastewater should be made into rivers and lakes. Everyone should conscientiously propagate the scientific ideas of environmental protection, practice an environmentally friendly life style and be envoys for an ecologically friendly civilization.
