As the temperature drops in Shanghai, the 200-plus animal species at the Shanghai Wildlife Zoo are staying warm and active.

Zookeepers said they had made all the necessary preparations to look after the zoo's 10,000 animals over winter.

Air-conditioning and heating systems are in operation in the chimpanzee, giraffe and tropical monkey enclosures. Zookeepers are also making sure the animals get enough outdoor activity.

Carnivores such as lions, tigers and bears are being given live prey so they can get some exercise, while herbivores are taken out to bask and stroll in the sun.
