Appearing at the first Ani-com Game Fair held in the city, the director also answered some widely held concerns about the war epic. The film's recent withdraw from Oscar contention has put it at the center of public attention again, the Guangzhou-based Information Times reports.
Disagreements among investors have dropped the film from the Oscar consideration. However, according to the director, unfinished post-editing work also pushed back production. Chan says that he is still working on the editing and that the film will be finished by the middle of November.
Chan says that there will only be a Mandarin version of the film, which means Cantonese and English speakers will have to read subtitles. As for the film's withdraw from the Oscar race, Chan says that it won't affect the film's performance at the box office.
The film will open in Chinese theaters on Dec. 12 and it will be released in the US next year. The film will automatically enter the Oscar nomination race for the 2009 Academy Awards after its American screening, according to the report.
