Four Chinese mathematicians were respectively awarded the Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize and the Chen Xingshen Maths Prize on Friday.

Li Daqian from Fudan University and Yan Jia'an from the Chinese Academy of Sciences were awarded the Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize for their outstanding contributions to the field of mathematics.

Li won the prize for his excellent research results in the field of partial differential equation.

Yan was awarded for his contributions to the fields of martingale theory, stochastic analysis, white noise analysis, and financial mathematics.

Zong Chuanming and Ji Min were awarded the Chen Xingshen Maths Prize.

Zong, from Peking University, won the prize for his excellent research results in the fields of geometry of numbers and sphere packings.

Ji from the Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the maths prize for making contributions to researches on partial differential equation and calculus of variations.

Ji was the first female to win the prize since it was established in 1985.

The Hua Luogeng Mathematics Prize, the highest honor of its kind in China, was initially set up in 1991 in honor of the late Chinese mathematician Hua Luogeng, who was noted for his pioneering research in mathematics.

The prize is sponsored by the China Mathematics Society and the Hunan Educational Publishing House.

And the Chen Xingshen Maths Prize was established in 1985 in the name of the noted Chinese maths professor Chen Xingshen, with a Hong Kong entrepreneur patronizing the prize.
