The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has eliminated its English entrance test in an effort to attract more Chinese mainland students to the institution.
The website nen.com.cn reports that HKU removed the required English test for Chinese mainland students because it believes English test results from students' Chinese mainland college entrance examinations accurately reflect their performance potential.
HKU registrar Henry Wai Wing-kun said the university will award a HK$140,000 scholarship to 60 non-local students annually in tuition.
HKU has a 250 to 300 entrance quota for Chinese mainland students this year.
