Chinese Artwork Lands on Normandy

A statue of the World Peace Goddess by Chinese artist Yao Yuan has been requested for display to commemorate the 60 anniversary of the amphibious Allied landings at Normandy, France, starting early in the morning of June 6, 1944, a date also known as D-Day.

The statue will be permanently placed at the center of landing area of Grand Alliance forged between the British Commonwealth and the United States.

Leaders of China and France, as well as the campaign survivors from the UK, Commonwealth countries like Canada, the US, France and Germany will attend the placing ceremony.

The Goddess is 11 meters high and weighs a total of 16 tons, with stainless steel welded on the cover of the internal plaster cast.

On June 6, 1944, the soldiers from the British Commonwealth and the United States successfully landed on the Omaha beaches of Normandy, a turning point in World War II.
