Chinese Poet Zang Kejia Dies at 99

Chinese poet and writer Zang Kejia, who co-edited with Zhou Zhenfu the Selected Poems of Chairman Mao with notes and annotations, died Thursday at the age of 99, sources at the Chinese Writers Association announced in Beijing.

Born in October 1905 in Shandong Province, east China, Zang entered the Shandong Provincial First Normal School in 1923. He was later trained at the Wuhan Branch of the Central Military and Political School.

From 1930 through 1934, Zang was a student at the Chinese Language Department of National Shandong University.

Zang published his first collection of poems, titled Brand, in1937, and a collection of political ironic verses in 1946.

A member of the China Democratic League, Zang was editor-in-chief of the periodical Poetry from 1957 to 1964, and honorary deputy president of the Chinese Writers Association, the sources said.

Zang is survived by two sons and two daughters.
