The Chinese Language Film Week is currently going on in south China's Guangdong Province. It offers free showings of films nominated for the third Media Awards for Chinese Language Films.
Renowned directors and independent film critics will discuss the movies with the audience after each show.
Works nominated for this year's awards include the most popular films made on the Chinese mainland as well as in Hong Kong and Taiwan, such as Infernal Affairs, The Missing Gun and Spring in a Small Town.
There are works from established directors such as Tian Zhuangzhuang, as well as from relatively young directors like Meng Jinghui, who has also directed several avant-garde plays in the past few years.
This year's Film Awards has added two new categories of prizes, namely the Best First Film and the Most Popular Film. The awards ceremony will be held in Guangdong this Saturday.
The Media Awards for Chinese Language Films is mainly sponsored by the Nanfang Weekend, a popular Guangdong-based newspaper. Starting in 2001, the awards are designed to create an open, active and independent environment for film criticism.
