More than 200 people from literary circles gathered at the Museum of Modern Chinese Literature on Saturday to mark the 104th birthday of one of the most renowned contemporary Chinese writers.
Shu Sheyu -- more widely known by his pseudonym of Lao She -- was renowned for his novels with a distinguished local Beijing flavor such as Luotuo xiangzi (Camel Xiangzi).
In memory of Lao She, 40 calligraphers and painters jointly worked on four paintings that were more than three meters long each.
The four works will be displayed at the museum during the Spring Festival, together with another 100 calligraphies and paintings.
Most of the works were made by renowned artists in Beijing and friends of Lao She. All the paintings and calligraphies were relevant to Lao She or his novels.
The works had been collected from across the country.
The founding ceremony of the Consultative Committee of Lao She Art and Culture Foundation was also held on the same day at the museum.
