Chinese military colleges and universities will train more postgraduates with master's and doctoral degrees in a bid to further modernize the army, according to a recent military education meeting held in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.
It is expected that the number of postgraduate students studying in China's military schools will total 20,000 by 2005.
Experts say that as more high technology is used in the military field, high-level military professionals and academics will play an increasingly important role in modernizing the army.
At present, Chinese military universities and colleges are taking measures to encourage army officers at all levels to receive higher education. So far, some 20,000 students have received master's and doctoral degrees from Chinese military universities.
Students can now pursue master's and doctoral degrees in 746 and 272 Chinese military schools and universities respectively.
