Some ramparts of ancient tribes built 3,000 years ago were recently discovered in Yujiang County, East China's Jiangxi Province.
These ramparts were found at an expressway construction site by experts with the Jiangxi provincial archaeological research institute.
According to the experts, the ramparts are made from earth, and measure 15 meters wide and cover an area of more than 40,000 square meters.
Research on earthenware pieces unearthed from the ramparts showed that the walls were built in the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC -1100 BC) and the Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC- 256 BC).
The discovery will provide valuable clues on the study of culture and history of ancient tribes and towns in the area, the experts said, adding that further excavation on the ramparts is going on.
