Two Chinese film queens Zhang Ziyi and Vicki Zhao Wei together have won the title of the Excellent Actresses of the Hua Biao Award, China's governmental film award, solving the guesswork that two film queens might contend for only one award.
On the stage, two super contenders congratulated each other for surviving four Excellent Actresses nominees.
Standing on the stage in the awarding ceremony held here Sunday, Zhang Ziyi said she was joyous and felt that winning the award was really hard.
Zhang won the award for the first time thanks to her well-recognized performance in Zhang Yimou's blockbuster "House of Flying Daggers," although she was nominated several times previously.
Vicki Zhao Wei won the title of the Best Actress of Shanghai International Film Festival this June owing to her excellent performance in the film "A Time to Love", which also made her the Excellent Actress of Hua Biao Award 2005.
Although Zhang Yimou's "House of Flying Daggers" didn't receive the award of Best Feature Films, the prizes of Best Technological Innovation and Best Marketing Film comforted him in a sense. At least, "House of Flying Daggers" starred Zhang Ziyi who received the Excellent Actress Award of Hua Biao.
Meanwhile, "A World without thieves" and "Young" jointly shot by the mainland and Hong Kong and "About love" jointly shot by the Chinese mainland and Japan received the Best International Cooperation Award.
The annual award of Hua Biao, also "ornamental columns," is China's governmental film award. The awarding cups are all shaped like ornamental columns erected in central Beijing's Tian'anmen Square.
The Hua Biao Award 2005 has 17 prizes like two Best Chinese Feature Films, two Best TV Films, the Best Marketing Film, two Best Directors, two Best Actors, two Best Actresses, two Best Technological Innovation films, and New Rising Actors and Actresses.
