China Pavilion at the World Expo in Aichi in Japan has been a magnet for visitors since the event got underway at the end of March. Its unique design and Chinese features have attracted about a million people so far.
With one visitor out of three on average coming into the pavilion, it's the most popular, as well as the biggest, of the 120 foreign pavilions at the Aichi Expo.
Centerstage in the Chinese pavilion is the Life Tree which imitates a natural scene of water dripping and plants growing. The display utilizes the ancient Chinese technique of rice paper production together with modern image projection technology, to emphasize the theme of the whole pavilion.
Sun Gang, curator of China Pavilion, 2005 World Expo, said: "It has the theme of 'Nature, City, Harmony -- the Art of Life', which illustrates the Chinese philosophy of respecting nature while becoming an integral part of it."
A huge multimedia relief sculpture provides a tour through China's 5,000-year civilization and its modern urban development. The sculpture wall highlights the harmony between tradition and modern, nature and city.
And the Rosewood Room, with replicas of imperial Ming and Qing Dynasty furniture and calligraphy, showcases the distinctive culture of the Chinese study.
The Aichi Expo will continue until September. The next event, in 2010, will be hosted by the city of Shanghai on China's east coast.
