The First Emperor's Mausoleum to Be a Park

The project of building Qin Dynasty's (248 B.C-207 B.C) first Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum into a relic site park started recently. The total investment for this project is 550 million Yuan and its site preparation and relocation work has been fully initiated.

The site park project includes 3.2 square kilometers of forestation in and around the cultural relics area, a new stone lorica museum and an official terra cotta museum.

Qinshihuang's Mausoleum is one of the cultural relics under national priority protection as specified by the State Council. As one of the culture treasures for the entire human race, it has been put on the world cultural relics list by the United Nations' Science, Education and Culture Organization (UNSECO).

The management of this site has been quite arduous as the site is extraordinarily large and its underground resources abundant. In addition, the units and villagers in the protection area do not coexist well with the cultural relics and makes management of the site very difficult.

The Site Park project is a key project approved by the State Council, and the Shaanxi provincial government has decided to implement it. According to the overall blueprint, an area of 2902.508 mu within the tomb's outer city would be condemned.

This area is centered around the mould pile, with a length of 2,250 meters from south to north, and a width of 1,025 meters from east to west. Twenty nine units and businesses and one thousand families within the construction area all have to be relocated.
