New Yorkers Appreciate Chinese Music

New Yorkers had another chance to reflect on Chinese folk music on Saturday evening, with a stunning concert in the Lincoln Center. Sponsored by both the Chinese and American music communities in New York, the concert was a great success.

The concert was named after a melody by Chinese composer Huang Yanjun, also known as Ah Bing: "The Moon Mirrored in Two Springs". This musical masterpiece is for the Erhu, a two-stringed instrument not unlike a violin. The piece was performed by China's top Erhu player, Song Fei.

The Erhu has been a mainstay in traditional Chinese music for over a thousand years.

The two-hour concert offered a varied program of works, ranging from folk songs to traditional Chinese opera. Showing to a full house of a thousand music lovers, it ended with enthusiastic applause. The show will also be taken to Harvard University for a performance on Sunday.
