Kang Huijun, former deputy director of Shanghai's Pudong New Area District, has lost his seat at the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, the city's legislature, for suspected corruption.
The Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress said in a statement on Wednesday that Kang's resignation from the legislature has been accepted.
The statement said Shanghai authorities had received tip-offs from citizens alleging that Kang had taken bribes.
Investigations indicate that Kang had "seriously violated discipline by taking bribes", and he has been removed from his post as the deputy district head, the statement said.
The case is still being investigated by the Shanghai municipal committee for discipline inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC) the statement said.
