Institute of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies of China
The Institute of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies of China (IDTSC) was established in August 1983 in Lanzhou with an aim to organize and unite domestic researchers in Dunhuang and Turfan studies to conduct relevant academic research and cultural relic protection, as well as promoting international academic and cultural exchanges. The first president was the Chinese scholar Ji Xianlin, and the society's secretariat was placed at Peking University, but moved to Capital Normal University in 2000. It publishes the academic journals Dunhuang and Turfan Studies and Dunhuang Studies International Liaison Committee Newsletter.
Over the past few years, the IDTSC has collaborated with major institutions in Dunhuang studies from the UK, the U.S., Japan, France, and Russia, hosting international academic conferences in locations such as Kyoto, Princeton, St. Petersburg, and Cambridge, thus effectively facilitating connections among Dunhuang scholars worldwide. The establishment of the society has fundamentally changed the situation when many sighed, "Dunhuang is in China, but Dunhuang studies are done abroad". In recent years, the IDTSC has focused on implementing the Systematic Protection, Organization, and Publication Project of Dunhuang Literature, which has not only ensured the sustainable development of Dunhuang and Turfan studies in China, but also provided scholars worldwide with the most comprehensive resources on Dunhuang and Turfan studies.
