Green-Glazed Barn-Shaped Jar with Modeled Decorations

The Green-Glazed Barn-Shaped Jar with Modeled Decorations is a burial object dating back to the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280) in the Wu region of south China, with a history of more than 1,700 years.

The artifact is entirely coated by green glaze and consists of a big jar and five interconnected smaller jars on the top. A small mouse holding food in its mouth peeks out from the mouth of the big jar.

Around the smaller jars are modeled decorations. In the middle is a three-story pavilion, in front of which stands two puppies guarding the gate. Eight attendants are playing musical instruments beside the two gate towers on both sides while birds look for food. Together, it is a joyful scene depicting a harvest celebration.

A tiny tortoise is affixed to the shoulder of the jar. It carries a "stone stele" with 24 Chinese characters, which convey a prayer for good luck and indicate that the burial object was produced in 260 of the Kingdom of Wu (222-280). Surrounding the tortoise are animals such as deer, pigs, and fish.

This exquisite burial object not only depicts the daily life of wealthy families at that time, but also reflects the Chinese afterlife belief that the souls of the dead live in another world.

青釉堆塑谷倉(cāng)罐

青釉堆塑谷倉(cāng)罐是三國(guó)時(shí)期江南吳地的陪葬品，距今已1700余年。

器物通體施青釉，主體為一大罐，上面堆有5只相連的小罐，中心罐口還探出一只口叼食物的小老鼠。小罐四周堆塑出多種裝飾，居中者為三層樓閣，閣前有兩只小狗看門。兩側(cè)門闕旁，八位侍仆正賣力演奏樂(lè)器，周圍鳥(niǎo)雀則引頸覓食，呈現(xiàn)出歡慶豐收、百鳥(niǎo)爭(zhēng)食的熱鬧場(chǎng)景。在罐子肩部，塑貼了一只小烏龜，背馱“石碑”，上刻24字，寄托吉祥寓意的同時(shí)，也點(diǎn)明了器物制作的時(shí)間：東吳永安三年（260）。龜四周貼塑鹿、豬、魚(yú)等動(dòng)物。

這件精美的陪葬器物表現(xiàn)了當(dāng)時(shí)富裕人家的日常生活情景，也反映出中國(guó)人“事死如事生”的生命哲理觀。
