Three Joint Exhibitions at Meridian Gate
In January 2024, the Palace Museum launched three major exhibitions at the Meridian Gate Exhibition Hall, namely Al-Ula, Wonder of Arabia, Historic Encounters: Interaction Between China and West Asia in History, and The Glory of Ancient Persia.
The three distinctive exhibitions recount the glorious history of major civilizations along the Silk Road.
Based on relics from the Palace Museum, the Historic Encounters brings together 266 pieces (sets) of relics from 10 domestic and foreign archaeological and cultural institutions, including the National Museum of Iran, to tell a story of historical interaction and exchange between China and West Asia.
The Glory of Ancient Persia features 216 pieces of relics from various museums in Iran, most of which represent vivid evidence of the long-standing friendship between China and Iran.
The Al-Ula exhibition employed sound and light technology to recreate the magnificent oasis landscape of the northwestern Saudi Arabian city of al-Ula. It also features more than 230 pieces (sets) of relics that testify to the miraculous civilization created by local people over the past 7,000 years.
The joint exhibitions were an important move taken by the Palace Museum to implement the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which aims to enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of various countries and explore the development of civilizations along the Silk Road by reviewing the history of exchanges and mutual learning between the ancient civilizations of China and West Asia.
