Eco-Cities

Building eco-cities is a smart choice for humanity to achieve harmonious coexistence with nature. It is a farsighted strategy for sustainable development of Chinese cities. The goal is to build compound ecosystems featuring nature-society-economy interdependence, and ensure environmental protection, social fairness and sustainable growth of the economy.

The idea of eco-cities highlights the eco-environment in improving people's wellbeing and the coexistence of humanity with nature. It is a positive response to the people's desire for a beautiful eco-environment. The CPC and the Chinese government consider building eco-cities to be an essential and basic public service for the people to live and work in an environment with blue skies, green vegetation and clear waters, with a stronger sense of benefit, happiness and security.

From the perspective of economics, building eco-cities is an efficient means of resource allocation. From the perspective of urban construction, promoting sustainable development of cities is a long process.

In recent years, Chinese cities have advanced resource conservation and recycling across the board to cut consumption of energy and materials, and made ecological explorations in such aspects as urban spaces, environment, industrial development, urban buildings, transportation and energy, thus turning themselves into garden cities, green cities, or cities with beautiful landscapes. Eco-cities also accommodate the living demands of their residents, develop eco-environmental awareness in their daily life and work, and guide them to gradually adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle.

生態城市

生態城市建設是人類探索與自然和諧相處聚居模式的智慧選擇，是實現中國城市可持續發展的長遠戰略選擇，其內涵是建設自然—社會—經濟相互依賴的復合生態系統，實現環境友好、社會公平、經濟發展的可持續性。生態城市的概念闡明了生態環境在民生改善、人與自然相處中的重要地位，是對人民群眾日益增長的優美生態環境需要的積極回應。建設生態城市，就是將優美的生態環境作為黨和政府必須提供的基本公共服務，讓人民群眾在天藍、地綠、水凈的環境中生產生活，不斷提升優美生態環境給人民群眾帶來的獲得感、幸福感、安全感。

從經濟學的角度講，生態化是一種最高效率的資源配置；從城市建設的規律看，促進城市的可持續發展是一個漫長的過程。近年來，中國城市全面推進資源節約和循環利用，降低能耗物耗，在城市空間、環境、產業、建筑、交通、能源等方面進行了有力的生態探索，孕育出花園城市、綠色城市、園林城市、山水城市等不同的生態城市類型。同時，建設生態城市還應充分理解城市居民的生活需求，將生態環境建設融入生活和工作中，通過環境建設引導、改變生活方式，最終實現城市居民生態觀念和意識的提升。
