People on Both Sides of the Taiwan Strait as One Family

Xi Jinping has a deep understanding of the Taiwan question and is familiar with the history of Taiwan and cross-strait relations. He understands the specific concerns of the people in Taiwan, with what happened in the past and the specific position they now find themselves in. He has, therefore, expressed his sincere desire on many occasions to work with the people in Taiwan to help allay the historical misgivings that may still exist in Taiwan so that people on both sides could join hands and move to the future. On April 8, 2014, in Boao, Hainan Province, he met with Mr. Vincent Siew, honorary chairman of the Cross-Strait Common Market Foundation and expressed his hope that two sides could work together as "one family" and increase their economic cooperation. On numerous occasions afterwards, he again emphasized the idea of "ties of kinship between the two sides". This bond is rooted in our blood and soul, and in the history and culture we share. Xi Jinping proposed the idea of "ties of kinship" based on this close bond, on our common history and culture, and on our goal of national renewal. 

As the guideline for advancing relations between people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, this idea of kinship helps shorten their emotional and psychological distance so that people on both sides can work together with stronger recognition of our shared national, ethnic, and cultural identity, in our drive to achieve the Chinese Dream of national renewal. The historical meeting between Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou, leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, was a good example of this family bond between the two sides. 

兩岸一家親

習(xí)近平對(duì)臺(tái)灣問(wèn)題有深刻的理解，熟知臺(tái)灣歷史和兩岸關(guān)系歷程，也理解臺(tái)灣同胞因其歷史遭遇和社會(huì)環(huán)境所形成的特定心態(tài)，多次表達(dá)了愿與臺(tái)灣同胞一起努力，化解臺(tái)灣同胞的歷史心結(jié)、共同把握現(xiàn)在、開(kāi)創(chuàng)未來(lái)的真誠(chéng)心愿。2013年4月8日，他在海南博鰲會(huì)見(jiàn)臺(tái)灣兩岸共同市場(chǎng)基金會(huì)榮譽(yù)董事長(zhǎng)蕭萬(wàn)長(zhǎng)時(shí)提出，希望本著“兩岸一家人”的理念促進(jìn)兩岸經(jīng)濟(jì)合作，此后，他又多次強(qiáng)調(diào)和踐行“兩岸一家親”理念。兩岸同胞一家親，根植于同胞共同的血脈和精神，扎根于兩岸共同的歷史和文化。習(xí)從血脈親情、歷史文化、民族復(fù)興的角度提出“兩岸一家親”，指明了兩岸同胞處理彼此關(guān)系的基本思路，有助于拉近兩岸同胞的感情和心理距離，增進(jìn)共同的國(guó)家、民族、文化認(rèn)同，共圓中華民族復(fù)興的中國(guó)夢(mèng)。2015年11月7日，兩岸領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人習(xí)近平、馬英九在新加坡香格里拉大酒店的歷史性會(huì)面，正是“兩岸一家親”的最真實(shí)寫(xiě)照。
