Upgrading the China-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

China and the European Union (EU) are two influential players on the international stage and two major markets, which represent two major civilizations. Against a backdrop of growing multi-polarity, economic globalization, increasing cultural diversity and greater democracy in international relations, Sino-EU cooperation assumes greater importance as a strategic model for the rest of the world in shaping the balance of power in international relations and promoting world peace and development.

Addressing the College of Europe in Bruges in April 2014, Xi Jinping proposed building four bridges: 

– a bridge of peace and stability linking the two influential players; 

– a bridge of growth and prosperity linking these two great markets; 

– a bridge of reform and progress linking the reform processes in China and the EU; and 

– a bridge of cultural wealth linking the two major civilizations.

中歐是當(dāng)今世界兩大力量、兩大市場、兩大文明。在世界多極化、經(jīng)濟(jì)全球化、文化多樣化、國際關(guān)系民主化的時代背景下，中歐合作更具全球性、戰(zhàn)略性、示范性，對推動國際力量平衡、促進(jìn)世界和平與發(fā)展意義重大。2014年4月，習(xí)近平在歐洲學(xué)院發(fā)表演講時提議：要建設(shè)和平穩(wěn)定之橋，把中歐兩大力量連接起來。建設(shè)增長繁榮之橋，把中歐兩大市場連接起來。建設(shè)改革進(jìn)步之橋，把中歐兩大改革進(jìn)程連接起來。建設(shè)文明共榮之橋，把中歐兩大文明連接起來。
