Monk Fanzhou's Pagoda in Yuncheng of Shanxi Province
This pagoda was the tomb of Master Eanzhou, an eminent Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty. It is located on the site of Baoguo Temple, where the monk had stayed, at Beiqu Village, about five kilometers northwest of Yuncheng. According to an inscription on the pagoda, it was built by an army commander of the Tang Dynasty in 822 after the death of motif, Fanzhou.

It is a round structure about ten meters high. The sides of the round base incline slightly inward. On the pedestal between the base and the main body of the pagoda are carved brick arches and columns. The interior of the pagoda is hexagonal with a caisson ceiling. The frame and threshold of the south-facing door are both made of stone. On both sides of the door are lattice windows modeled after wooden structures. An inscription on the side of the pagoda records the life of monk Fanzhou and a detailed account of the construction of the pagoda. The roof of the pagoda looks like an umbrella, and its eaves are formed by stacked bricks, supporting the steeple. The lower part of the steeple is in the shape of banana leaves with carvings of floral designs, while its upper part is composed by a hemispherical inverted bowl and a precious bead on top.
