Dajin Dagobas at Zhele Temple in Ruili of Yunnan Province
Dajin Dagobas are located inside Zhele Dajin Temple at Zhele Village about eight kilometres east of the county town of Ruili. Legend has it that buried under these dagobas are bones of the first seven incarnations of Sakyamuni. Built very early, the dagobas underwent repairs in the fourteenth century when the temple was expanded. Repairs were also done to the present dagobas more than a hundred years ago. Repeated repairs over the last half century make them look even more magnificent than ever.

Dajin Dagobas are formed by a group of seventeen dagobas of different sizes. Among these inverted-bowl- style dagobas built on a round platform base, the middle one is about forty metres high. The gilded roof of the big dagoba in the center, and the discs and inverted bowls on the other dagobas, shine with brilliant splendour against a background of blue sky and white clouds. Dajin Dagobas are the most majestic buildings of all extant Lesser Vehicle Sect dagobas in China.
