A key highway linking Tibet with neighboring Sichuan Province Reopened to traffic yesterday, 36 days after two massive landslides blocked the road.
It has taken a local armed police troop 25 days and nights, half the time expected, to cut out a 1.5 kilometer long new road on the mountains, using explosives and wooden cages.
Traffic on the key road was completely cut off after separate mountain slides on April 25 and April 26 blocked the road and a nearby river, and led to the submerging of nearby villages.
The road is currently being further expanded and reinforced.
