The 2001 Beijing International Exhibition of Women's Art, the first of its kind in Beijing, will begin on March 8 at the China Art Gallery.
The weeklong exhibition is a joint effort by the Chinese Association for Cultural Exchanges with Foreign Countries (CACEFC), China National Art Gallery and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
On display will be 120 pieces of art, mainly paintings and sculptures. They will reflect the latest trends in women's battles for equality, freedom, independence and development opportunities around the world.
Among some 70 women artists whose works will be displayed at the exhibition, 12 are from foreign countries including Egypt, Latvia, Britain, Hungary, France, the United States, Austria and Sweden. Six of them are wives of ambassadors to China and most of their works express their feelings and understanding of China during their stay in the country.
A CACEFC official said the exhibits are of great value in cultural exchanges, and the CACEFC plans to promote such activities regularly.
