Seventeen percent of high-income families in this capital of south China’s Guangdong Province have private cars, according to a survey conducted by the Guangzhou City Statistics Bureau.
The survey, conducted at the end of last year, covered 200 families with an annual income of over 60,000 yuan (US$7,230). Such families make up 10 percent of the total in Guangzhou. The result shows that 34 of the 200 families own private cars and that four have two cars.
Of the 38 private cars, 25 are imported ones and 13 are domestically-built ones, 65.8 and 34.2 percent of the totals, respectively. Among the domestically made cars, four are Santana, three are Jetta and another three are Citroen. There is one Alto, one Xiali and one Buick.
The total expenses are 182,800 yuan (US$2,200) per car on average. Eleven cars were purchased for less than 100,000 yuan (US$12,000), twelve for between 100,000 to 200,000 yuan (between US$12,000 to US$24,000), seven for between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan (between US$24,000 to US$36,000) and eight for more than 300,000 yuan (US$36,000).
