Roger Moore in China to Raise Funds for AIDS Orphans

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Sir Roger Moore will be making his first ever trip to China to attend the Asian Cup Final and a UNICEF fundraiser for AIDS orphans. Sir Roger and Lady Kristina will attend the Asian Football Confederation's 50th Anniversary Gala Evening at the Beijing Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Table sales, an auction of football memorabilia and an innovative pledge campaign linked to the number of goals scored in the Asian Cup will raise funds for a UNICEF-assisted project that provides support to China's AIDS orphans, now believed to total some 78,000.

Creative designs for the Gala Evening have been donated by Ogilvy Advertising, one of three private sector companies to be presented with UNICEF awards by Sir Roger at a UNICEF Reception on 6th August. "UNICEF –Building a World Fit for Children" awards for 2004 go also to Mailman China, for their campaign against young people smoking and Bejing Xiele Fine Arts Ltd. for the artwork they designed for UNICEF's anti-trafficking campaign.

After attending the Asia Cup Final, the Moores will travel to the field to meet AIDS orphans at first hand. On their return to Beijing, Sir Roger Moore and China HIV/AIDS Ambassador Pu Cunxin will hold a Press Conference in the Hibiscus Room of the Sheraton Great Wall Hotel at 10:00AM on Wednesday 11th August to which all media are invited.
