Media Watch Japanese Chemical Weapons Disposal

Over 50 reporters from domestic and overseas media witnessed the disposal of the toxic weapons abandoned by Japanese invaders in World War II on Friday morning in Luquan City in North China's Hebei Province.

Reporters visited the disposal area, and watched the whole process through live video. An official from the Chinese Foreign Ministry will give a briefing.

On Sept. 2, the Japanese government sent over 50 officials and experts to Luquan to examine the chemical weapons. Together with the Chinese side, the Japanese group started work on Sept. 6 and the disposal is expected to finish on Sept. 22.

The 52 bombs were found in May 1991 in Gaocheng City of Hebei when a high school rebuilt its dorm buildings. Later, Chinese experts moved them to a special warehouse in Luquan.
