The Chinese Atlas Publishing House announced last week that it has developed software of electronic maps to navigate cars.
Senior engineer Chen Chengyong said the software enables the driver to know his or her precise location, even when driving in remote regions of China. The electronic map is by far the most authoritative and content-rich in China, Chen said. It is also the first one in the country to boast navigational functions.
The electronic map provides information on over 40 traditional print maps. Small roads in townships can be easily found.
There is a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver with this software. The customer needs only to connect the GPS with the computer to activate it.
"Every electronic map has accurate geographical coordinates," Chen said. "When the GPS receiver matches the satellite information on the electronic maps, the software will start the navigation process."
The software will enter production late this month and will enter the market soon.
