Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee Hwa said Wednesday that there would be no quota restrictions for Chinese-language films produced in Hong Kong entering the mainland market.
He said this was possible after Hong Kong and the Central Government reached a consensus to give better terms to the local film industry under the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement to be signed on June 30.
Tung said films jointly produced by Hong Kong and the mainland may be distributed on the mainland as mainland films.
Moreover, the proportion of Hong Kong crew members in such joint productions may be increased, and the background of such movies need not be set on the mainland.
Tung hoped the arrangements would create a more favorable environment conducive to the development of the film industry, providing an impetus for economic recovery.
