FAQ for Studying in Beijing
1. How to apply for scholarships granted by the Chinese government?

All applicants can apply to the relevant student dispatching authorities, the Chinese embassy, or consulate general in their home countries. The time to apply is normally between the beginning of January and the beginning of April. The China Scholarship Council does not handle any individual applications.

2. What do these scholarships include?

Scholarships granted by the Chinese government are divided into full and partial scholarships.

1) The full scholarship includes:

a. Exemption of registration and tuition fees, free access to laboratories and practices, free basic learning materials, and free accommodation;

b. The same free medical care that Chinese students are entitled to;

c. Monthly living allowance and settlement subsidy (only once and after registration).

d. Return train tickets for hard seats (hard sleepers if overnight) from the entry city to the city where the university or college is located, and vice versa.

e. The fees for international travel, in principle, should be paid by the sender, unless otherwise agreed.

2). The partial scholarship includes one or some of the above-mentioned items.

3. How to apply to study if you are a self-financed, international student?

1) Applicants can apply to the CSC through relevant institutions of higher learning and non-governmental groups;

2) Applicants can apply directly to the CSC's secretariat;

3) The applicants can directly contact China's universities and colleges.

4. What's the expense for self-financed, international students?

The expense for self-financed, international students in China is low compared to that of other countries. The total expense, including tuition and accommodation, is about US$3,000 a year.

5. What's the duration of study in China?

It differs with respect to the subjects chosen. Generally speaking, it takes 4 to 5 years for undergraduates, 2 to 3 years for master's degree candidates, and 3 years for doctor's degree candidates. The duration varies for Chinese language students, general scholar candidates, and senior scholar candidates.
