Top Two Universities Still Open to Public After Blast
Prestigious Beijing and Qinghua universities will remain open for the public to tour around the campus despite last month's explosions, Beijing University President Xu Hongzhi said Friday.

Two home-made explosives rocked the respective cafeterias on campus at noon on Feb. 25, injuring six students and staff.

Many students are very angry at the criminal act, said Xu president, who is a deputy to the national legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC).

As two higher educational institutions open to the public, Beijing and Qinghua universities will never keep the campus closed to tourists, he said.

"In Beijing University alone, the daily arrivals of visitors are numbered in thousands these days," said Xu, who is attending the First Session of the 10th NPC.

Meng Xuenong, major of Beijing, said since the explosions took place, security has been tightened on campus, and the incident "will not affect them in their efforts to build themselves into world-class universities."

Like Xu, the mayor is also attending the on-going NPC session that opened in the Great Hall of People Wednesday.

The two canteens resumed normal operation the second day after the explosions.
