Beijing Police Crack down on Holiday Crimes
A crackdown on train ticket scalpers, thieves and other criminals has resulted in more than 4,600 penalties meted out since Jan. 24, the Beijing Public Security Bureau announced Wednesday.

In a bid to maintain good social order and secure the personal property of travelers during the Chinese Spring Festival holiday period, Beijing police have strengthened patrols at railway and subway stations and long-distance bus stations.

The crackdown is targeting train ticket scalpers, unlicensed long-distance bus drivers and thieves.

By Wednesday, Beijing police have examined more than 700 restaurants and over 2,580 long-distance buses entering Beijing from other places.

About 3,700 unlicensed stall-keepers were penalized and some inflammable and explosive products were confiscated.
