New Rules: Bring Pets in Subways Can Be Fined

There are new fines governing taking pets on the China’s Subway systems, in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The fines range from 50 to 500 yuan (US$9.6-60) -according to the new regulations announced on Monday by the national transport management authority.

The rules also apply to light rail systems.

Passengers must also refrain from smoking, spitting and littering in the underground. Anyone caught smoking can be fined up to 500 yuan. Passengers taking dangerous materials may be fined from 50 to 500 yuan when they are inspected and checked.

According to the new regulations passengers can seek a refund if for any reason the subway cannot run.

The new regulations also demand that authorities be extra ready for any emergencies on the transport system. The first aid box must be equipped in the subway station; otherwise the station may be fined up to 5,000 yuan (US$603).

The new rules will take effect on August 1st, 2005.
