Shanghai Men Challenge Women's Jobs

A growing number of men are engaging in jobs previously slated for women, such as makeup artists, housekeepers, kindergarten teachers and even mid wives, today's Laodong Daily reported.

Many of the popular makeup artists in nearly 20 bridal picture studios are men.

"Men can understand more of women's beauty and can beautify a woman with a taste of the opposite sex," said Helen, secretary-general of the Wedding Trade Association of Shanghai, adding that brides might be even more attractive with makeup done by a male artist.

Male housekeepers are also proving very popular in Shanghai, especially those mastering various living skills such as driving, housekeeping, defense, cooking and medical-care techniques, according to a local housekeeping agency.

In foreign countries, many men work in the so-called woman's jobs, said a human resources expert, stressing that if men and women each bring their advantages into full play, they can improve themselves in any kinds of jobs.
