Juliana Barbosa, from Uruguay won first prize among women at the 11th Shanghai International Model Competition last night at Shanghai Television Station.
Adrian Allen of Australia won the men's competition.
They were among 48 contestants in the event, including 16 Chinese and 32 models from other countries, including France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Peru, Argentina and Chile.
The awards ceremony concludes the 17-day 2005 Shanghai International Fashion and Culture Festival.
During the event, a group of young Chinese designers showed their latest creations. Italian fashion labels Erreuno and Glenfield also showed off their spring and summer collections. Design colleges and universities also took part in the festival by holding design contests and displaying students' works.
Zhang Yinan, a 23-year-old third-year student at Donghua University, came first in the Paris-Shanghai Fashion Design Contest.
