Shanghai audiences will have the opportunity to watch the world-famous Italian opera "Madame Butterfly" on May 15 and 16 during the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
"Madame Butterfly", Italian composer Puccini's masterpiece, made its debut in Milan, Italy in 1904. The opera tells the tragic story of the love of a Japanese woman for an American naval officer.
Soprano Gao Manhua will play Cho-Cho-San, the leading actress.
The opera was previously performed in the 1960s and 1980s in Shanghai.
