China Issues Stamps of Works by Qing Dynasty Artist

China has published a set of postage stamps featuring eight works by Zhu Da (1626-1705),a leading artist in his times.

The stamps, together with other postage products based on the works of the artist, were jointly published by China Philately Corp and the Jiangxi Philately Company.

Zhu Da, also known as Ba Da Shan Ren, was a member of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) imperial family.

After the Ming Dynasty was replaced by the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the artist converted to Buddhism, and then became a Taoist. Later, he returned to secular life, and devoted himself to painting and calligraphy in the capital of Jiangxi Province.

Zhu is known for his paintings of flowers, birds and scenic spots, as well as for his unique calligraphic skills.

In 1985,UNESCO recognized the artist as one of China's top 10 cultural figures.
