Thailand will seek more help from China in the war against illicit drugs during a three-day meeting between anti-drug agencies of the both countries starting Monday, the Thai News Agency reported Monday.
Rassamee Witthaves, deputy chief of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) was quoted as saying that she will lead a team to discuss drug problems with Chinese officials in the northern province of Chiang Mai, some 700 kilometers north of here.
She said Thailand is being flooded with methamphetamines to such a degree which has become a major threat to national security while China is also suffering from an influx of methamphetamines,or the "crazy drugs".
The official said Thailand will propose the two countries share intelligence information and cooperate in criminal investigation,training, education, prevention and suppression.
China has already given many help to Thailand in combating drugs, and the Chiang Mai meeting will be used to further strengthen bilateral anti-drug cooperation, she said.
Under a previous bilateral agreement, China has sent a drug liaison officer to its embassy in Bangkok while a Thai drug official is expected to be dispatched soon to the Thai embassy in Beijing.
