A Swiss airliner with 32 people aboard crashed on its approach to Zurich airport on Saturday after a flight from Berlin, killing several of those on board and injuring others.
Police said at the crash scene near Bassersdorf, just a few km (miles) from the runway, that at least nine people had so far been rescued from the wreck and "several" others had died. Further details on the casualty toll were not available.
A spokesman for the airline, Crossair, said the 97-seat RJ-100 Avro Jumbolino, built by British Aerospace, had been carrying 27 passengers and five crew.
A spokesman for Berlin's Tegel airport said Crossair's scheduled flight LX3597 had taken off from the German capital about an hour before crashing shortly after 10 p.m. (2100 GMT).
Crossair is in the course of taking over the bulk of the collapsed national flag carrier, Swissair.
